Event Terms & Conditions
These Event Terms and Conditions apply to your participation in a youth summit event presented by MaRS Discovery District (“MyStartr”, “we”, “us” or “MaRS”) through its MyStartr program. MyStartr is Canada’s only national, employer-led coalition dedicated to helping young people overcome barriers to employment and realize their full potential. Your attendance at, and participation in, the event is subject to the following terms.
You must be aged between 15 and 30 years to attend the event unless you are representing a MyStartr community delivery partner, a MyStartr employer partner, or are otherwise specifically invited to participate by MaRS (e.g. speakers, etc.).
2. Good Conduct
All participants at the event must only engage in conduct that is consistent with the values and goals of the MyStartr program. We will not tolerate any behaviour that is harmful, obscene, indecent, violent, abusive, profane, insulting, harassing, hateful, or otherwise objectionable.
All participants must also agree to comply with the policies of MaRS including without limitation any health and safety policies.
We reserve the right to refuse admission or remove any person that violates our good conduct standards or our policies.
Unless we have otherwise committed expressly in writing to you, we are not responsible for providing transportation or reimbursement of travel-related or accommodation expenses under any circumstances. If we agree (in our sole discretion) to cover some of your costs through an honorarium and/or per diem, we will pay such amounts through electronic funds transfer, and you agree to promptly provide us the necessary information to do so. If you do not provide us with the required information, you will forfeit your right to receive such amounts.
5. Photos and Video
You agree that the event is a public event, that your appearance and actions inside and outside the event venue are public. Because of this, there isn’t an expectation of privacy with regard to your actions or conduct at the event. Unless you speak to one of our representatives in advance of your attendance and we find a manner to indicate your desire to avoid photographs and recordings (e.g. ‘no photo’ sticker or name tag), you grant permission to MaRS, the event sponsors, and folks working on their respective behalf to utilize your likeness, voice, name, actions, or statements in any live or recorded audio, video, or photographic display or other transmission, exhibition, publication or reproduction made of, or at, the event (the “Materials”) for any purpose, worldwide in perpetuity and in any form of media including without limitation, social media posts, online video streaming, and promotional or advertising campaigns. You agree that all use or licensing of the Materials can be made without further notice and without financial or other benefits paid to you.
6. Acknowledgement of Risks & Release
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any place where people gather. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. All participants assume all risks, hazards, and dangers arising from or relating in any way to the risk of contracting COVID-19 or any other communicable disease or illness, or a bacteria, virus or other pathogen capable of causing a communicable disease or illness.
You hereby consent to participation in this event, and release and hold blameless MaRS and its affiliated companies from and against any loss, damage, or injury suffered by the participant as a result of attending the event.
7. Third Party Applications and sites
At the event, certain applications, websites, or other platforms that are offered by a third party (“Third Party Platforms”) may be made available to you. Third Party Platforms not under the control of MaRS – MaRS is not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or any other element of those platforms. If you choose to use Third Party Platforms at the event, you agree that (i) such use will be governed by the terms and conditions offered by the third party operating the Third Party Platform, (ii) MaRS is not responsible for the Third Party Platform or the results thereof, and (iii) you release and hold blameless MaRS and its affiliated companies from and against any loss, damage, or injury suffered by the participant as a result of using the Third Party Platforms.
8. Right to Reschedule or Cancel
MaRS may reschedule or cancel the event if it deems necessary in its sole reasonable discretion. If you paid to attend the event, your ticket will be honoured at the rescheduled event or refunded if the event is cancelled for reasons beyond the reasonable control of MaRS (that said, MaRS is not responsible for any costs you incurred outside of purchase of an event admission)
9. Minor Participants
If you are under the age of majority in your province of residence, your participation in the event will be conditional upon MaRS receiving proof of your parent’s consent to your attendance at the event and to these Event Terms and Conditions. Such proof must be provided in a form requested or approved by MaRS.
